Things I Dig Right Now

I'm digging the Take Away Shows which feature musicians take to the streets to perform semi-spontaneous renditions of their hits. The camera work is totally free and full of energy, and my favourite scenarios include a hotel lift and and open top bus. Instruments such as ripping magazines and megaphones just push this over the edge for me. The edge of awesomeness.

Here are a couple of my faves:

I find it very bizarre and cool that they're walking down the street doing that. If I was there I would follow them, forever.

I'm also digging the 3D cutout scenes of Liam Stevens. Beautiful.

Now from take away shows to take away pizza!

Art & Graft

As a result of Grocery Day I was offered a short mid-term internship at the great Art & Graft, a moving image studio in East London. It's been wonderful so far, the guys there are great and I can't get over the sight of Big Ben over the Thames every night. I've had my input on some big and exciting projects, alongside which I've been busy making introductions for their showreels. Here's some concept art, it should be done by Tuesday/Wednesday.

I'm dabbling in real 3D for the first time on this little project too, so it's an exciting adjustment in direction. I'm interested to see how I will incorporate this into my imagemaking in the future, as I've never been a fan of the straight up 3D aesthetic.

Grocery Day Reception

It's been a crazy few weeks. My animation Grocery Day got featured on Lineboil and then word of it spread quite far, much beyond my expectations. I've had many kind words from some very esteemed people. So thanks to everyone who featured it and spread the word.

Here are a few of the places I've turned up since:

Cartoon Brew
Reputation By Design
Public School
Director's Notes
That's Nerdalicious
Popflys
PSST! Pass It On

And lots more!
I was even featured on the blog of design studio OPEN, which I visited a couple of weeks ago. My teacher Holly Wales is an illustrator there among some very good company. She is super talented and a great teacher. Also she has restored my faith in the ability of the library at Winchester School of Art to provide me with anything more than bad books on architecture and lost hours.
